Cicaré CH-14
Light Scout Helicopter
Client: Argentine Army / Cicaré S.A.
The Challenge: To design and build a fully functional flying prototype in just one year.
Project Overview
Date: 2005 – 2008
Defined as a tandem two-seat light helicopter for transport, instruction, and patrolling. My goal was to collaborate closely with the team, applying my design experience while respecting Augusto Cicaré’s unique development method.
Integral Design & On-Site Support
My involvement went far beyond the traditional scope of an industrial designer. I worked on-site, with my computer right next to the prototype, assisting the build team in real-time.
I managed the Master 3D Model, building it up from the bare chassis. This process involved collaborating directly with Augusto Cicaré to co-design and model several mechanical assemblies, ensuring that the digital twin evolved simultaneously with the physical prototype.
Beyond aesthetics, I provided:
Full 3D Integration: Modeling mechanical parts to validate fit and function.
Technical Support: Generating drawings and data for the workshop on the fly.
External & Cockpit Design: Creating the bodywork around the evolving mechanical core.
The Outcome
We successfully developed the prototype on schedule. Test pilots praised both the helicopter’s aggressive look and its performance. The project was awarded the “Gran PREMIO INNOVAR” (National Innovation Grand Prize).
